Commodity trading is nothing but trading in commodity derivatives (futures or options). In other words, if you are keen at taking a buy/sell position based on the future performance of commodities like gold, silver, agricultural commodities, metals, crude etc; then you could do so by trading in commodity derivatives. Commodity derivatives are traded at the commodity exchanges. There are currently 2 major commodity exchanges NCDEX (National Commodity and Derivative Exchange) and MCX (Multi-Commodity Exchange).

ICICI Bank is soon expected to introduce Over The Counter (OTC) or exotic treasury products involving both bullion and US dollar, in its forthcoming foray into commodities, subject to RBI clearance. The new generation private sector bank is also understood to have sought RBI clearance to offer rupee dollar swaptions and interest rate options. Currently, the bank is awaiting RBI’s green signal for its merger with parent ICICI Ltd. It plans to offer plain vanilla gold-related products to its existing and prospective clients, mainly from the jewellery exporting community by this month-end.
