    Title Tea Consumption Pattern and its Effect on the Health Status of Adults (30- 50 yrs) in the Nilgiris.

    Description
    A study was conducted to determine the effect of tea consumption patterns on the health status of adults in the Nilgiris. A preliminary survey enabled the collection of data on the socio economic status, life style pattern, dietary pattern and tea consumption pattern of 1000 adult subjects chosen at random. The subjects were divided into five groups namely
    T1 – Consuming 600 ml of tea / day, N = 50
    NT1 – Coffee Drinkers, N = 47
    NT2 – Milk Drinkers, N = 10
    Anthropometry and clinical picture was assessed for all the subjects. Biochemical estimation and food weighment survey was performed on 50 subjects, 10 from each group. Organic green tea was supplemented to 20 healthy subjects from group T2. Group A (N = 10) was supplemented with 5gm tea leaves in boiling water with 20 ml milk. Group B (N = 10) was supplemented the same without milk and the effect of tea on the health status of adults were noted.

    Title – Food Consumption Pattern of Selected Tribal Elderly and Nutritive Value of Selected Uncommon Tribal Foods

    Description
    The project was undertaken with the objective to study the socio-economic status, life style pattern, health status and dietary pattern of the elderly tribes, to assess their nutritional status and to analyse the nutrient content of uncommon tribal foods.150 samples were selected and various anthropometric measurements such as height, weight, Mid Upper Arm Circumference, Chest Circumference and skin fold at triceps were undertaken. Clinical and biochemical analysis were performed for selected subjects. Uncommon tribal foods were collected and analyzed for their nutrient content in lab settings.
